A tag is a request for feedback – place it at the end of any experience to which you would like a response. Anyone who has that experience can now feed back to you in just one click of the tag.
For example, here’s our tag to allow users to rate this help section. Why not give it a try, it’s just one click!
By the end of this section you will know how to create, edit and configure Inspirometer tags. If you already know how to create Tags, and you want to know how to use them in your life, go to ‘Download/Use Tags‘.

Creating a new Tag
You can create more tags for any particular experience you want to measure. Perhaps create a tag to use in your email correspondence, or create a tag to print out onto your leaflets.
To create a new Tag from the main menu, go to ‘Tags’, ‘Create a Tag’.
Give your Tag a name – this title will only be visible from within your account, it is simply there to help you differentiate which Tag is which when you have multiple Tags.
Categorise your Tag – you have the option to put the Tag in a category, which could be for instance, ‘Communications’, ‘Promotion’ or ‘Customer Satisfaction’. The purpose of categories is so that you have the ability to group similar Tags and see their combined data.
Give your Tag a question – this is the question that will appear on the response page when someone clicks/scans your tag. Or, in the case of the widget, it is the question that will display above the clickable faces. It’s good to keep the main question short, clear and general.
You will have the option to add further secondary questions later on, if you want to receive more detailed feedback.
Now hit GENERATE!
For information on how to create Tags which are the same for every member of your team, for instance if you want to use your Tag within a CRM system, please take a look at: Community Tags
Editing Tags
To configure your Tag’s settings, first choose which Tag you need to edit.
Go to ‘List Tags’ and click the settings Icon beside your selected Tag.
From the settings screen you will be able to edit all of your Tags basic information, like its Title and category and Main Question. However, there are also other things you can change.
Follow Up Questions
By default, the Tag has no Follow Up Questions, but you may add up to three. These are extra questions which appear on the response page after a user has clicked on your Tag. They ask the user to provide up to three more ratings relating to various aspects. You decide what these aspects are by configuring your Follow Up Questions.
If you want to change these, you have to click to ‘unlock’ this section of settings. Don’t worry, this is just so you don’t make any accidental changes – you might already have response data from this Tag, and we wouldn’t want you to accidentally skew your reports.
The dropdown menu for each aspect contains a wide selection of possible follow up prompts. Just click the ones that suit your Tag best.
and then click to Save your changes when prompted!
Comments in Tags
Do you want your respondent to leave a comment alongside their rating? You can switch this on and off here. To see how this looks from the perspective of the respondent, go to ‘Responding to Tags’. Once you click one of the check-boxes here, your preferences are automatically updated.
The ‘Enable respondent to request a reply’ option is greyed out until you Enable Comments. If comments are enabled, you are able to set whether or not your respondent can request a reply from you – when they write their comment to you on the Tag response page, there will be a check-box asking them if they want a reply. If they do, you will receive a notification about it at your Inspirometer account.
Limit Response Rate
This option allows you to restrict the same person leaving another rating within a set period of time.
Depending on how you’re using your Tag, this option can be useful to prevent respondents accidentally duplicating their responses by clicking on your Tag more than once in a short space of time.
To configure this time period, click EDIT and type a number of minutes into this space.
Feedback validation
In some situations, you may have concerns about respondents abusing the Tag to bias or disrupt your feedback. To be frank, this is fairly rare, and you may be worrying unnecessarily. However, if you do need to control who can respond to your Tag, and how frequently, the Inspirometer has some useful features which can help you.
- The first feature – ‘Time before repeat response accepted from same device’ – prevents a technique called ‘ballot-box-stuffing’ whereby a respondent might attempt to send you multiple responses in respect of a single transaction in order to ‘prioritise’ your attention
- The second feature – ‘Limit responses to registered devices’ – ensures that abuse, if and when it occurs, is traceable
You can read more on these feature, and discover how to set them up below. Please note, you will need to have the features switched on in your ‘Extensions’ page which can be found under your Account page.
Time before repeat response accepted from same device.
This value limits how frequently an individual device can respond to this Tag. If a subsequent response is received to the same Tag from the same device within the time period specified, it will be ignored by the system.
This feature is intended to avoid accidental double clicking of Tags, and also prevent abuse of Tags by what is commonly called ‘ballot box stuffing’. The default value is 15 minutes. If you are using your Tag in a situation where you expect many legitimate responses from the same device in a short period of time, set this value to 0.
Please note, you may still receive responses at a greater rate than the time indicated if they are received from multiple devices. This enables two different people to respond at the same time.
To switch on this limit, ensure it is switched on in your extensions, and then open the ‘Advanced’ section on the Tag settings page.
If you are concerned about abuse from individuals using different machines to register multiple responses, there are solutions to overcome this. These solutions are more specialised and include Tag encoding and secure Tags. However, our first recommendation would be that you seek to understand why someone would go to so much trouble to give you repeated feedback, and through such dialogue reach a solution which does not require complicating your Tag usage. If you do require Tag encoding or secure Tags, please contact us.
Limit responses to registered devices
This option, also accessed through the Advanced section of the Tag settings page, will only accept feedback from devices that have been registered with the Inspirometer system against a bona-fide email address. If a Tag with this setting is clicked from an unregistered device, the response page opens up as illustrated on the right, and explains that the device needs to be registered to enable it to respond to the Tag. Registration is very quick and simple, and only needs to be effected once on any given device – the device will then work with all registered Tags.
The respondent, enters their email address and clicks submit. The process then validates the email as legitimately belonging to the respondent in one of two ways: 1) if the email address is associated with an Inspirometer account, the page will ask for the password to confirm the respondent; 2) otherwise, it will send a confirmatory email to the address, with a simple link which can be clicked to confirm the email and register the device. They only need to do this once per device. Their email address will be held securely, and they will have full control over their anonymity. However, if you set this option we would encourage you to pre-advise those people who will encounter your Tag so that this process does not come as a surprise.
Registration means that you can be more confident that your responses are from legitimate individuals.
Anonymous responses
Registration provides the opportunity for effortlessly identifying respondents to Tags. Through registration, respondents can ensure that their email is transferred so that any dissatisfaction is addressed personally, and can achieve this without the effort of entering their email address each time. Tags that are set to ‘not anonymous’ are identified by the absence of the anonymity message on the response page. Where the account holder has selected the ‘Not Anonymous’ option, but has not limited responses to registered devices, the system will pick up the emails along with the response from the registered devices, but will return only return the response (and not the email) from unregistered devices.
Scheduling Tags
This function can be particularly useful in scenarios where you want to monitor the ongoing impact of something you’ve done. For instance, we’ve found that AutoTags can be great for following up after training courses. The trainees receive regular prompts to rate how well they are implementing the lessons into their work, and the course leader can collect data about how successful her course has been in embedding new skills.
AutoTags can also be used for monitoring ones own performance in some area of life. Maybe there’s something you’re trying to improve about yourself or maybe you’d like to keep track of your performance or happiness. You can schedule Tags to arrive in your inbox at a convenient time for you to record this personal data, and later you can analyse it in your Inspirometer account.
To access these settings, click the tab that says ‘Scheduling’, from the Tag Settings pages – make sure you’re looking at the settings for the Tag you want to schedule! .
Click on the banner that prompts you to ‘Click here to create a new Schedule for this Tag’.
First you need to enter a Start Time, the time and date of the first ‘run’ of your AutoTag. (Clicking this box will open a date/time dropdown selection).
Next, define the point at which your scheduled Tags will stop. Either express this as a date and time (e.g: Stop at: July 30th, 12:00.) or as a number of runs (e.g. Stop after #88 runs).
Now there are few ways you can set the frequency of the Tag emails:
Daily: choose to run after every ‘1’ Day (every day), or after every 2 days, and so on.
Weekly: choose it to run after every 1 week, on days: Wednesday and Friday, for example.
Monthly: Run on day ’10’ every 1 month. Or, run on the last Friday of every 6 months.
The final thing to do is to enter the message that is sent along with the Tag email. Once you’ve done this, click Save.
At first, your recipient list will contain only yourself. To change this, just click the ‘Add Email’ button. You can add more than one address at a time in the window that opens.
