The Reframing Matrix is a technique for looking at the problem from different perspectives (planning, product, people and potential, rather than the more abstract perspectives reflected in the Problem Restatement technique) and using these to gain further insight on the problem.
By looking at the problem from different perspectives, we gain a deeper understanding of its dimensions and consequences, and are therefore better placed to marshal our forces and attack it from the most productive direction. Confucius once said that “A person who only understand their side of the argument, understands very little of that!” The Reframing Matrix helps us to overcome that limitation.
Please note, the reframing matrix will not provide a clear ‘answer’ – it is more a matter of seeing new opportunities from the different perspectives that are taken. If ‘planning, product, people and potential’ do not prove productive for you, feel free to change these perspectives.
To use the reframing matrix, upload the iFrame to a virtual meeting, or print it out and stick it on the wall in a physical meeting (or recreate it on flipcharts) and invite people to type in their contributions (or add them via post-it) from the different perspectives.

The template can be printed off (at any size) for use in Physical meetings, or uploaded to suitable meeting or collaboration software so that it can be used in virtual or asynchronous meetings.
